Gas BBQ FAQs

How long does a gas BBQ take to heat up?

Most gas BBQs are ready to cook within 10–15 minutes.

How do I connect my regulator to my gas BBQ?

Attach the hose to the nozzle of the regulator and secure with the hose clip provided. Tighten the hose clips with a screwdriver. Ensure that the hose is not obstructed, kinked, or in contact with any part of the barbecue other than at its connection point.

Attach the other end of the hose onto the connection nozzle of the BBQ unit. Use the other hose clip provided to secure it into place.

Place the regulator onto the top nozzle of the gas cylinder and fix into place using the the black button on the side of the regulator.

You can turn the gas flow on and off using the lever above the clip button on the regulator.

Please note our regulators and hoses are sold separately from the BBQ units.

How often do I need to replace my regulator and hose?

We recommend replacing the regulator and hose within a 3 year period. Please inspect the condition of the gas regulator and hose regularly as well as conducting a leak test before using the BBQ. Ensure the hose and regulator is clean and dry before usage. If you suspect the regulator is not working properly or has any visual damage (including rust), stop using it immediately and replace it with a new one.

My gas regulator doesn't fit my gas cylinder

If you have a concern with the regulator not fitting the gas cylinder, please consult the gas cylinder supplier before use.

Why isn’t my BBQ getting hot enough?

There could be several causes for your BBQ not getting hot enough: low gas in your cylinder, cold or windy conditions, blocked burner ports, or a regulator safety lock. Always check fuel levels, clean burners before use, and reset the regulator if needed to ensure sufficient heat distribution.

Can I leave my BBQ outside?

You can leave your BBQ outside but we recommend using one of our fitted covers and keep it clean and dry. Also, always store your gas cylinder upright outdoors.

What are the advantages of a gas BBQ over charcoal?

Gas BBQs heat up faster, offer better temperature control, produce less smoke, and are easier to clean than charcoal BBQs.

Does food taste different when cooked on a gas BBQ?

Food cooked on a gas BBQ may have less smoky flavour than charcoal, but flavour can be enhanced using marinades and sauces.

What type of gas do Fire Mountain gas BBQs use?

We recommend using propane gas for our BBQs. All Fire Mountain regulators are propane-only.

Can I cook with the lid closed?

Yes, you can. Cooking with the lid closed helps retain heat, improves cooking efficiency, and is ideal for roasting larger portions of food.

What internal temperatures should food reach?

Use a meat thermometer to ensure food is fully cooked. Always check food packaging instructions for what temperature the food should reach.

How do I control the temperature on a gas BBQ?

Temperature is controlled using the burner knobs. Use lower settings for slow cooking and higher settings for searing.
